Judge Morris Silberman Elected Secretary/Treasurer
Judge Morris Silberman of the Second District Court of Appeal was recently elected Secretary/Treasurer of the Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal, where he also serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Strategic Planning and Evaluation Committee. The Council serves as a body for consultation and education concerning the improvement of the administration of justice, rules and methods of procedure, and the organization and operation of state intermediate appellate courts.
Judge Silberman was also elected in July 2018 as a member of the American Law Institute, serving on the Members Consultative Groups for Principles of the Law, Policing, and for Student Sexual Misconduct: Procedural Frameworks for Colleges and Universities. The American Law Institute was founded in 1923 and is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law. Members have the opportunity to influence the development of the law in both existing and emerging areas, to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics, to give back to a profession to which they are deeply dedicated, and to contribute to the public good.
Judge Silberman also serves as a member of the University of Florida Law Center Association, Inc., Board of Trustees. He was elected to the Board in 2018. The Board of Trustees assists in the budgetary process, provides financial and volunteer resources, and facilitates student mentoring programs for the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
Judge Silberman was appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal in 2001. He served as chief judge of the court from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2013. The Second District Court of Appeal, which covers 14 central/southwest counties, is headquartered in Lakeland and also maintains offices and a courtroom in Tampa.
