Judge James W. Whatley
Judge Whatley received his undergraduate degree in management from the University of Miami in 1969 and his J.D. degree from the University of Miami in 1972.
From 1972 to 1981 he was a partner in the Miami firm of Manners, Amoon, Whatley & Tucker. From 1982 to 1988 he was a partner in the Sarasota County firm of Kanetsky, Moore, DeBoer & Whatley. As a private practitioner, he specialized in civil trial law.
Governor Bob Martinez appointed Judge Whatley to the Twelfth Judicial Circuit in January 1989, where he remained until he was appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal in January 1995 by Governor Lawton Chiles, Jr.
Judge Whatley has served on various committees of the court including its Education Committee. He frequently addresses various civic groups and bar associations. He also participates regularly in programs and classes at Stetson University College of Law.
Judge Whatley was born in Miami, Florida, in 1947.
