Judge Samuel J. Salario, Jr.

Appellate Judge

Judge Samuel J. (“Sam”) Salario, Jr. was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He is a first-generation Floridian and American on his father’s side of the family, which immigrated to Tampa from Palermo, Sicily in the 1930s.

Judge Salario attended Jesuit High School of Tampa, graduating in 1988. In 1992, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Political Science from The American University in Washington, D.C. He returned to Florida for law school, graduating with high honors in 1995 from the University of Florida College of Law, where he was a member of the Florida Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.

After law school, Judge Salario served as a law clerk for the Honorable Wm. Terrell Hodges of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He began private practice in the Washington, D.C. office of Holland & Knight, LLP and subsequently joined Wilmer Cutler & Pickering – now WilmerHale – where he was a member of the Securities Practice Group and was promoted to counsel in 2002.

Later in 2002, Judge Salario returned to Tampa, where he joined the Carlton Fields firm. In 2004, he was promoted to shareholder and, thereafter, became the leader of the firm’s Securities and Derivative Litigation Practice Group. His practice primarily involved representing public companies, public company directors and officers, and financial services firms in securities class actions, shareholder derivative suits, internal investigations, and regulatory investigations. He also practiced general class action defense and complex business litigation.

Judge Salario has written and spoken on topics related to securities litigation, internal investigations, and class action defense. In addition, he has served as an Advisory Board Member of the Florida Securities Dealers Association, a Board Member of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, a member of the Florida Bar’s Advertising Grievance Committee, and a member of the Florida Bar’s Rules of Judicial Administration Committee.

Judge Salario was appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal on December 23, 2014 by Governor Rick Scott. He began service on the court on February 9, 2015.

Judge Salario is married and has two children. In his free time, he enjoys taekwondo (he holds a second dan black belt), cooking, travel to the “old landscapes” of Florida, and spending time with his family.
